Living with values in today's times
What are values
Everything you think, everything you feel, every action you take is because of your beliefs and values. You may not be aware of it, you may not be conscious of it, but your values shape your decisions, and your decisions shape your life. If you value money more than happiness, your life might be full of expensive things but there will be no joy in their
experience. Your values signal what is important to you, they are emotional states that show you what is important and what you want to experience. Imagine how different your life would be if you change the value of money and replaced it with the value of love, creating and stating your values consciously can change the direction of your life
If you decide to apply any of these values to your life, in your own words, in your own way, your own life will be one of more value.
Some most important Human Values
1). Health and energy:- It will be the most important value of all to some of those who have experienced serious health problems. Without physical health it is very unlikely, you can experience and enjoy all other values at their deepest levels. Great health gives you energy and vitality to dive deeper into the more important things in life and give more energy and time to those you love
2) Love:-
The overuse of this word makes it easy to misunderstand the true meaning of it. It’s not just
romantic love, but love of all things true. Non judgemental love, the love you have for your family, your friends, the love you have for your favourite things, the love you have for your passion and your mission, making love a priority in your life. Experience love by doing everything for everyone, this will make your life a better one
3). Gratitude and appreciation:-
Real gratitude shuts down all of the negative emotions in a moment, so how important is gratitude to you. If you want to feel good, make gratitude a top value and practice it as a priority everyday. It costs you nothing, but it makes you so rich. Just think, how much more magical your life will be if you lived in a constant state of gratitude and appreciation of everything which happens great in your life
Moreover there are a number of human values, like Kindness and Compassion, Integrity, Giving, Growth, Happiness, which are self explanatory
Living With Values In Today’s Time
1) Problem in identifying good and bad. It’s all perspective
An individual’s age is one of the most common predictors of differences in attitudes and behaviors. On issues ranging from foreign affairs to social policy, age differences in attitudes can be some of the widest and most illuminating.
2) Religious aspects of values. Though all talk the same thing but viewed as per what has been preached
These aspects are: beliefs, myths and other stories, sacred texts and other religious writings (such as formal creeds), rituals, symbols, social structures, ethical principles and oral or written codes of behaviour, and religious experience and spirituality.
Religions were made for the betterment of the human race. It is expected that there should be ample advice to respect people, even all the people of all other religions.
The reverse is seen. Followers of one segment of a religion even hate the followers of other sections of the same religion!
But it is practically very rare to see respect among the followers of one religion for other religions.
Then what is the use of religions in society if it only divides people?
3) Discipline required in adhering to values and living them
It has been well said, "You can never conquer the mountain. You can only conquer yourself."
How can we accomplish as much in our personal lives and careers? Part of the answer lies in self-discipline. Our motive should be to deliver on our best intentions and goals, even when we don't feel like doing so. If we have self-discipline, we are able to put off short-term pleasure (or endure short-term inconvenience or discomfort) in the pursuit of long-term gain.
Self-discipline is different from self-motivation or willpower. Motivation and willpower contribute to it, as do persistence, the ability to follow through on your intentions, and hard work
Conclusion
When we live by our values, they are the compasses that guide everything we do. They ground our decision-making and root our actions in a purpose greater than ourselves. In short, they give our lives both direction and meaning — which is why having a very clear understanding of what your values are is so important.
