Life In Home V/S Flats

HOME VERSUS FLAT

When we think of a home, what comes to mind are joint families, ladies working in kitchens, and a number of kids. Flat gives us an idea of a nuclear family, in which man and wife and their kids are housed. The progress of civilization has brought about a great conflict between home and a flat which metaphorically also means a clash of two cultures, and two sensitivities. The modern generation has left home behind, they have moved in big numbers from villages and small towns, and are heading for mega city centres. The breakup of the home and emergence of the flat also is symbolic of a new culture of self-centred living. However, while going in for these properties, we need to make our choices carefully.

What is the practical approach of people in purchasing a property

Most home buyers give a lot of importance to the location and the type of interiors, while choosing their homes. A better location promises better appreciation on property investment. When it comes to the type of property, there are few choices for buyers in metro cities, as high real estate prices compel people to look for projects within their budgets. While apartments are cheaper than independent houses, such as villas or independent floors, there are certain advantages of each property type that a home buyer must know of, before making a purchase.

Which one is better:- An independent house or a flat

Whether it's a flat or independent house, both have their pros and cons. When on one hand flats are cheaper to be purchased as compared to independent houses, their resale value is less as compared to independent houses. On the other hand, the cost of purchasing an independent house is more but it’s resale value increases in comparison to a flat.

Advantages of independent houses over flats

*One’s own house generates additional Rental Income

*Resale value is very high

*Good choice for investment if you have a scope of good capital

*No maintenance charges

*Flexibility of Construction

*Spacious Property

Advantages of flats over independent houses

*Financially, Cheaper to buy especially in metro cities

*Amenities and other facilities available are very good

Some examples are here:-

  1. Gym

  2. Swimming Pool

  3. Market etc, etc, etc

  4. Better security

  5. Prime location

  6. Parking area for your cars

  7. You get an atmosphere of independence

  8. Some societies even provide ATM facilities too

  9. One gets a good friends circle

  10. One gets facilities like clubs, hence a person gets a chance to be socially active

Hence these are the PHYSICAL advantages and disadvantages of living in flats or independent houses

What is the emotional importance of having somewhere that is home?

Having a safe place centers us and makes it easier to achieve life goals.

The human animal is not so different from his ancestors. Just as animals have lairs and mark their territories, people have fundamental attachments to place and space. Even equating home and womb is not too far fetched. Humans, however, add layers of significance to home and place. Physical places endure while memories and people fade, so homes and neighborhoods become "memory machines" that help us keep alive some of the strongest sources of what has given our lives meaning, well-being, and happiness.

Home provides security, control, belonging, identity, and privacy, among other things. "But most of all, it's a place that provides us with a centering—a place from which we leave each morning and to which we return each evening."

What is the emotional importance of having a flat of your own

Having a flat of one’s own  contributes to their emotional well-being, their self-esteem, and their confidence about doing things. Next is familiarity with their physical surroundings. This is particularly important if a person has lost some physical and cognitive abilities.

You pay EMIs to banks in case the property is financed or else you pay as per the construction plan. There is flexibility in terms of payment and you do not need to arrange a huge sum to buy an under construction flat. Hence it gives you mental peace and refrains you from any sort of trauma

                                             Conclusion

Whether you live in your own home or a flat, the only thing that is needed is social security, protection, happiness, mental peace, love and assurance, whether they are your neighbours in your own house, or other flatmates in your society. Until and unless you are getting all these amenities, whether you live in your own house or a flat, it is equally beneficial to you.

  2. We moved to an apartment for sometime, we liked it so much that we continued to stay here, but it’s reverse here, my parents stay with us, while our children have moved to different cities first because of education and now their job. So it’s a nuclear family once again… the advantages of the flats because of the amenities and safety weigh much more in favor of the flats
