Why lying is so common

What is a lie

Lie is the blunt term, imputing dishonesty. A person who communicates a lie may be termed a liar. Lies may serve a variety of instrumental, interpersonal, or psychological functions for the individuals who use them. Moreover to lie means to make an untrue statement with intent to deceive to create a false or misleading impression

What type of lies are there

The three most commonly referred to are lies of commissionof omission, and lies of influence, aka character lies. The reading below neatly summarises these and provides some examples.

There are a number of rhetorical strategies available to help convince people of an argument. Though this can be seen as manipulative in many cases, oftentimes it does not involve actual lying. But what is lying,

                                         Exactly?

                              Lies of Commission

The first definition matches perfectly with lies of commission, which entails

making a flat-out untrue statement

                              Lies of Omission

Lies of omission fit the second definition. Omissions are not necessarily untrue, but they are misleading

                          Character lies/ lies of influence

Character lies fit the second definition as well. Character lies are not necessarily untrue either, but they do attempt to create a false or misleading impression

                           What is a false lie

A false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth. something intended or serving to convey a false impression; imposture: His flashy car was a lie that deceived no one.

Why do people resort to lying

People resort to lying for so many different reasons that it’d be impossible to list them all. However, of the most common motives for telling lies, avoiding punishment is the primary motivator for both children and adults. Other typical reasons include protecting ourselves or others from harm, maintaining privacy, and avoiding embarrassment, to name a few.

What are the most common reasons to lie

The main reason people lie is low self-esteem. They want to impress, please, and tell someone what they think they want to hear. For example, insecure teenagers often lie to gain social acceptance. Here, parents should emphasise to their children the consequences  of creating excitement. Believe it or not, everyone lies just about every day, even you! To pacify or appease others. Making others happy is a good thing. To get rewards. To avoid punishment. To get attention. To get sympathy. To test trust. To create excitement. Believe it or not, everyone lies just about every day, even you.To pacify or appease others. Making others happy is a good thing, but not by lying and pleasing people.

Psychological reasons of telling a lie

Lies are told for one of two reasons: either the deceptive person believes they have more to gain from lying than from telling the truth; or the deceptive person is incapable of discerning what the truth is, either temporarily or owing to some permanent mental defect.

                                What mental illnesses cause lying

Pathological lying is a symptom of various personality disorders, including antisocial, narcissistic, and histrionic personality disorders. Other conditions, such as borderline personality disorder, may also lead to frequent lies, but the lies themselves are not considered pathological

Why do people pleasers need to lie a lot

Lying acts as an expression of love

Most of what we do or say is not an actual representation of who we really are — but we do this for good reasons. Because if they are happy, we will be happy. People pleasers don't lie to gain an advantage, they lie because they are terrified of displeasure. Putting it bluntly we could say that the people pleaser is a liar. It sounds brutal, but the people-pleaser is lying for poignant reasons

                               Why people pleasers are toxic

People Pleasers spend so much time and effort in taking care of others. Unfortunately, they often do not establish good social support for themselves. They also find it hard to give up control and let other people take care of them. While taking care of others is noble

and rewarding, it can also be toxic and unhealthy.

                         Tips to stop people-pleasing

•Though it may feel like an automatic behaviour, you actually have a choice. ...

•Identify your priorities. ...

•Set your boundaries. ...

•Set a time limit. ...

•Consider whether you're being manipulated. ...

•Create a mantra. ...

How do people who believe in Self Flattery lie a lot

These days some people take self praising as a boost or show off as to how great a person they are which isn't really right.

Sometimes praising yourself is a good thing because not everyone will be happy for your happiness and success, so learn to praise yourself and keep your confidence and head high.

                               Is lying good or bad

Lying is bad because a generally truthful world is a good thing: lying diminishes trust between human beings: if people generally didn't tell the truth, life would become very difficult, as nobody could be trusted and nothing you heard or read could be trusted - you would have to find everything out for yourself.
