The secret of discipline
What Is discipline
Discipline is a very essential thing everywhere. Discipline means self-control and obedience. Rules and laws have been made for the functions of the family, institutions, society and country. To obey them is discipline. Showing due respect to elders and senior officers is also discipline. It is of great value to every person in every place. Discipline is necessary wherever we are. Whether at school or offices, battlefield or playground. No organisation can function well without discipline. Absence of discipline creates chaos, quarrel and disorder.
Discipline brings peace, and order and develops strength, unity and cooperation
What are the prerequisites of discipline
One of your limitations, one of your problems, one of your nonsense that people suffer around you, one of those things should go.
You can leave all of it wholesale. Because without transformation, empty spirituality, talking spiritually, acting spiritual is no good. Some transformation must happen. Please make that happen, so that when you live, people will enjoy living with you, when you die they’ll miss you. That’s how you should live. .
If you live like this along with discipline, you can do wonders
Master Self-Discipline
How many of you feel like your mind is always on like you’re worrying about the past or you’re anxious about the future, how many of you feel like your mind controls you. Now you might have experienced this when you wake up in the morning, ready to start the day early, but your mind makes you press that snooze button deciding you’re going to be really really healthy but your mind makes you break that promise, and then makes you feel guilty for it.
Difference between a monkey mind and a monk mind
The monkey mind is always jumping from branch to branch, it’s always looking for the next pleasure, that instant gratification. It’s always looking for the short term win, it’s the part of us that complains, compares and criticises.
But the monk mind is focussed on the root of the issue, the monk mind is focussed on discipline and long term gain. Instead of being comparing, complaining, and criticising, the monk mind is calm, composed, collaborative, caring and compassionate. Discipline doesn’t mean control
Discipline doesn't mean control
It’s not about controlling yourself, it’s about having sense to do exactly what is needed. It simply means that you can do what is needed in any given situation, not what you want to do. That is essentially not acting out of your personal compulsions, but according to the requirement of the situation. When something needs to be done, everything is done the way it needs to be done. Something needs to happen with at most discipline, it will happen, this is what is needed in the world, it’s not about controlling ourselves, it’s not about conditioning ourselves.
Are you struggling with self-discipline?
It’s responding in standard ways, but being able to do what is needed beyond myself. My own ideas of what I like and dislike, but simply doing what is needed in a given situation, this is not only going to make the situations beautiful, this is also a wonderful way to grow for you.
What is the secret to self-discipline?
Self-discipline is an important attribute. Lack of it can cause you to struggle to achieve your goals.
Perhaps the best definition of self-discipline was given by Elbert Hubbard, who said: "Self-discipline is the ability to make yourself do what you should do when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not.
What is the secret to self discipline, i.e., is it an issue of predisposition or a function of the degree to which one works at it?
What if I told you that I am willing to pay you $1 tomorrow and all you need to do is get up and meet me at 4AM. What will you do?
You won't bother to set an alarm for the next morning; you will probably pull the blanket over your head and enjoy a quiet and blissful sleep.
What if I raised the ante and offered to pay $20? You may set an alarm now, but you may still hit that snooze button and go back to sleep. When you wake up, you will probably blame your actions on lack of self discipline
Conclusion
However, the fact that I am trying to put across is whether the money offered increases your propensity towards laziness or your lack of self discipline decreases.
The crux of the matter is that your lack of self discipline is actually a lack of motivation.
Hence one needs to be motivated to get self disciplined
