Being busy, doing nothing
Doing nothing is the highest thing
As Sadhguru has told several times that doing nothing is the best thing. What is this doing nothing? How can doing nothing be the best thing? The idea was quite intriguing but if we approach it with the right perspective, it has great wisdom in it
What is doing nothing?
Doing nothing means you should not sleep, you should not snore. That is doing nothing. It means you don't sleep, you don't think, you don't feel, you don't snore, and you don't do anything simply, but for this, you need an enormous level of awareness and alertness in the system. It's not going to happen simply, so right now it's better to do something, and use some tools. Sadhna means a tool, not practice. If you want something to come in your direction, you will have to do certain things.
Don't ever, work hard
This is a serious mistake, a whole generation of people have done, that if you study, how should you study? "You must study hard".
How should you work? "You must work hard".
Why didn't they tell you, you must study joyfully?
Why didn't they tell you, you must work lovingly?
No, you must do everything hard
Then you complain
You complain about everything in life because you are doing everything hard.
There is substantial medical and scientific evidence, to show you that only when you are in a pleasant state of experience, do your body and your brain work at their best. Is it important for you to perform any activity in life so that your body and brain are working well?
Be busy doing nothing
We often tell ourselves that we should always be busy. We should always look busy so people from the outside can see in and we are busy, we are important, but being busy necessarily doesn't mean doing something or doing something productive, else getting something done.
Hence one should learn to be busy doing nothing but don't remain busy all the time, because life is there for living, it is not there for being busy and making ourselves look important, from the outside. Be busy, but busy doing nothing,
What is considered a busy person?
The busy person spends all their time doing research, trying to learn all the possibilities, creating long to-do lists, and trying to make things perfect before they start. They can spend days with nothing tangible to show for their time and effort.
What too busy really mean?
Saying that someone is paying too much attention to something, with the result that they do not have time for someone or something else.
What does being busy teach you?
A study revealed that being busy can increase motivation and reduce task completion time. Busy people are more inclined to have a schedule, set goals and prioritise their workload so they become more productive.
Is being busy doing nothing, a good thing
Being "busy" is not the same as being directed... if you know where you're going, you might be busy because there's a lot to do on that road. But, you won't be confused about the big picture -- you're not going to have a "crisis of meaning" about your life or struggle with motivation because your direction is a clear expression of who you consider yourself to be.
What happens when you don't know, who you are
When people struggle with motivation or meaning, I think that 99% of the time the correct diagnosis is "you don't know who you are". That's the foundation of any goals or values or direction in life, it's the place where all of this meets and is unified. If that's not in good shape, then people do strange things to attempt to substitute -- like stealing goals from other people, borrowing values from society, or getting their direction from popular fiction.
There's just no substitute for knowing who you are and having that be the thing that directs the compass. If that's not working, nothing else will work.
Doing nothing is better than being busy doing nothing
if one is producing no(things) - doing nothing. This is not necessarily a bad thing.
But, if one is expending energy and producing no(thing), this is essentially not good
Think about this: sitting still - one is “doing nothing”. One is still doing “something” but that thing isn't productive to the outside observer. Sitting still, doing nothing, is a highly beneficial activity in my experience. It can result in an epiphany in solving a problem suddenly which has plagued me for weeks. Ever think of how many good ideas come to us at that moment when we stand under the water in our shower doing nothing but allowing the warm water to wet our bodies? This is good “nothing” doing.
Conclusion
It's your time. You can get busy with yourself anytime you decide. Today most of us ask for “ space”. What is that space for? For most it's for going to clubs and parties, for few it's taking time out for self. Do not do anything. I prefer being the latter one.
