The need for moral values in a society bred on competition culture
The human mind, because it wants to fix one thing, invents too many things. Because one of the fundamental ingredients is missing, instead of getting to it, it tries to invest in so many things.
What are the various morals taught to us?
Various types of moralities, various ideas of virtue and sin, all these things have been invented by the human mind just to fill that one slot which has not been filled, that is, to be in connection with the Divine which is throbbing within us.
Because that one thing is missing, we are trying to make it out with so many things. What is a virtue, and what is sin, if you go about debating, I'm sure each individual has their sense of what is a virtue and what is sin? Of course, according to his convenience, you know,
The circus of morality
All this is just a hippodrome, that the mind is doing simply because the conscious contact with that which is the basis of who you have not been established to cover that one lacking, we've invented so many things. Your ideas of virtue can always be twisted and turned into so many different ways from generation to generation.
From society to society, from generation to generation, from individual to individual, within the house, if there are four people, four people have four different standards of virtue.
Being moralistic means you are in the pretence of spirituality.
Are you a life with a mind, or are you a mind with a life attached?
Are you a life with some amount of mental capabilities, or are you a mind with a little bit of life attached? You are life. Just understand one thing, your life can get poisoned simply because you have a wrong thought or a wrong emotion, a wrong idea or a wrong philosophy for yourself.
The best thing is to allow the intelligence of life to function
And this is possible, by not taking input from too many people and too many things. Is this life a complete life by itself or is it half a life? Is it a complete life? 'Yes' is the reply of most of us.
How should one handle competition ethically
As an ethical mature human being, how should one view competition? How I should behave and handle that
As an ethical, mature human being - an ethical human being is a very immature human being. You are holding on to your ethics because you have no consciousness. Ethics you picked up from outside. Whatever your society, your religion or your profession, they have put down some rules.
Maybe they are norms with which one can function when one doesn't know how to function
Now, for example, let's say you are a doctor, there are the ethics of Hippocrates. That you must serve a person, it doesn't matter your convenience or inconvenience, when somebody is ill when somebody's life is in danger, you must go and do it. If you go by ethics, yes you will go and do it but in the process, you will become sick.
What Is That You Want To Do?
Throw your life and do it. What has to happen will happen according to your abilities and capabilities. Somebody is doing so much that if you try to do that, you will go mad or if you compete with somebody, you also limit yourself; you never realise your full potential.
If somebody is a monkey, you will become a better monkey than him, that's all.
What is that you want to do?
You look into yourself. Offer your life to it and do it. What has to happen will happen to the extent your capabilities, intelligence and abilities allow you. Why are you working against somebody? It's not necessary. And stop achieving things in this world. There is nothing to be achieved. Do what you love to do with all your heart. What has to happen will happen.
The idea of competition is so much ingrained in our minds, not only at the school level but even at the PostGraduate level or any aspect of our lives, it creates a lot of unnecessary stress
Competition is a good thing. If you are incompetent and you are in competition, you will feel stressed. If you want to be in a competitive situation, you have to work on your competence
Does morality depend on society and culture?
Morality refers to a system of beliefs about what is right and good compared to what is wrong or bad. Morals vary dramatically across time, place and across culture. There is a great deal of cultural variation in morality, and social norms relate to a wide variety of behaviours.
Conclusion
This is what we should teach our children to tweak their competence, not their desire.
If you focus enough on enhancing your competence, you will see there is such joy in breaking limitations every day and becoming something better.
